question on gear shifter on 88 Trailboss 250 4×4

I’ve bought this older atv a few years ago but haven’t really ridden it much til now. It is a 250 4×4 trailboss 1988. My question is the shifter has 4 positions (F, R, N, and HI F). My question is what is the difference between F and HI F? I find both gears sound the same when on open throttle, so one is not a low gear. I think the F is normal ‘forward’ made for high speed but maybe just 2 wheel drive, while the HI F is same but 4 wheel drive? Is that right?

Thanks
