A while back I put in 1.7mm of shim and a purple spring.
Everything seemed fine.
A few times I can remember idling in gear turning the key off, and feeling the Grizzly "relax" when I turned it off, as if it had been straining to get going.
Yesterday I was hearing some growling from the CVT cover so I took it apart, and found a bunch of belt mcnuggets, with the remainder of the belt cracked in many places ready to come apart. The sides of the belt and very shiny.
I haven’t been doing a lot of drag racing or long hill climbs, but I did tow a trailer full of gravel a lot doing trail maintenance with the Department of Natural Resources. But I did use low range for that.
I want to reduce my shim amount in case that contributed to the cause. The fact that the machine was trying to go while idling in gear tells me maybe the shims are causing me to engage the belt too early.
But I don’t want to go back to stock, I don’t want to mess with changing the purple spring back out.
What would be a good shim amount? 1mm? 1.2mm?
What would happen if I removed all shims and left the purple spring in?
