I was out driving my wife’s new Sportsman 570 last night, my first experience with power steering on an ATV, and it left me with mixed feelings.
Having power steering at lower speeds was a blast! Crawling over rocks, stumps, etc, or simply pulling out of deep ruts was a breeze. But what did make me nervous was driving at higher speeds – there’s virtually NO TRAIL FEEDBACK, and I can totally foresee someone ending up in the rhubarb if they weren’t paying attention. At higher speeds, and im talking MAYBE 30ish mph max, it felt like the slight flick of the wrist had me zipping back and forth across the trail.
My wife hasn’t commented on the power steering being touchy – in fact she loves it – but I can’t help but think ‘MOD-TIME!’. I heard that other models have a switch to adjust the power steering sensitivity depending on your speed. Has anyone ever done, or thought of adding a switch tied into the power steering to simply turn it off?
