Working on a 2011 rzr s. Motor needed to be rebuilt from rod bearing failure. Customer took the engine to the dealer and had it rebuilt. New internals from the crank up… new crank, new cylinder, pistons, cam, lifters, pushrods, etc. Brought the engine back to me. I installed the engine. Heres my problem:
The engine will start but die quickly for a few tries, then it will start and continue running but idle kinda rough. Throws the code for the cam phase sensor. When you press the throttle it stumbles badly at first and then revs on up. But generally runs crappy…
So ive changed the cam sensor with a known good sensor. No change. Swapped ecus with a running machine. No change. Pulled the loom from the wiring harness and checked for breaks. None found and got continuity through wires with a meter. Still in suspect I pulled a cam sensor harness from an old wiring harness and rewired the sensor from the ecu to the sensor…. No CHANGE… I get voltage and ground at the sensor plug. All along ive disconnected the battery trying to clear codes in between attempts to fix the issue. Nothing worked. So I removed the engine again. Pulled the stator and checked timing. Timing is correct… This is where I am. What do I check now? What else could cause the phase sensor problem?
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any input.
