having some problems with a new-to-me 2012 rzr4/800 w/ 3400miles on it.
took it out for the first time on a long day, like 60 miles mostly easy stuff roads/mild rock trails, a few creek crossing.
first thing i noticed was that it didn’t have the top end my neighbor’s bone stock rzr4/800 has, on flat roads WOT, it was barely getting to 50mph where his easily cruises at 55-65mph. i do have different tires, but i don’t think they’re bigger or any beefier tread wise. it just felt bogged down and low on power (has new air filter and newer belt, so i thought maybe fuel, plug, or clutch probs)
anyway so yesterday i took it out to run a quick errand and to make a proper top speed attempt so i could report back to here and see if it’s really that bad. after backing out of the driveway it was a little stubborn getting into R after putting it in P to close my garage door, and once it was in gear it was a little noisey, but nothing scary sounding.
then not far from home i decide to pull over to get my goggles from the glove box and while sitting still i bumped the gear shift lever in to R on accident. it moved like a foot before i hit the brakes, but after that i was screwed. couldn’t get it to stay in a gear and when i finally did, the rzr wouldn’t move. so i towed it back home and today i popped off the clutch cover to check out the belt/clutches. on visual inspection it looks ok, belt isn’t worn on the sides and when i started it up and gave it some gas while in R both clutches would spin but the rzr wouldn’t budge.
at this point i’m thinking pinion shaft snapped, any other theories? or are there any other test i can do to verify or disprove the pinion shaft scenario?
thx
