To start off im 22 and own a 2013 1000xt. Bought brand new. Im in no way being paid to review the outlander. 100% to the truth here.
Well its been over 1,000 miles on the outlander. I think 1,200 to be exact.
Did my 10hour service on my own(yes you can keep the receipts and use can am fluids or the substitute that they call for) The only thing I didnt do was the valve. Was told to wait at least 30hours. Some dealers have saw them up to 50hours with them not being very far off spec. This is your choice. I personally wouldnt wait any more than 50-70 hours. I still havent checked mine and im at 65hours I believe. They will be getting done within the next month(gotta do mine and a maverick which is also at 1,300 miles)
Pretty much within the first 70 miles I ditched the paper air filter. They filter very well but I prefer a foam filter.. I went with a uni filter. Do NOT go with k&n no matter what you are told. They filter very poorly(wont even run one on my woods beater)
My riding style varies here in the mountains of pa. We have everything from rocky terrain-sand. Pretty much every style of riding cept for swamp crossings. If I had to guess id say my average speed over 1,000 miles would be around 20-30mph. Every ride is different sometimes not breaking 30mph and other times hitting 60-70mph. I dont exactly baby it but dont totally beat the crap out of it every mile. I keep it greased usually about every 100-200 miles or so. Sometimes more depending on when I hear the bushings start to squeak. You should run a good synthetic grease and I use what we get for the backhoe which is high temp extreme pressure stuff and it seems to work just as well as any other synthetic. Up to you on the brand and quality. So far the bushings seem to all still be tight. Only thing i’ve noticed that has a little bit of play is the ball joints but they arent in need of replacing yet. Fluids will be getting changed at the same time also.
I did invest in a set of skids. Which should be about the first thing you should buy if you ride anything other than the dunes.. I havent had any problems with my ricochet’s. They stock ones are weak and I actually cut into mine with a razor blade with no big effort so imagine a 800lb atv slamming into a rock or stump with them.. I’ve hit my fair share of big rocks and trees on the trail and still they show no signs of dents or big damage.. I highly recommend the bash plate for up front. I’ve had quite a few things hit the front and could only imagine if I didnt have it. I know for sure one decently sized limb I hit would of went into my winch/rad area.
Only real problem i’ve had(knock on wood) Is the headlight switch(high/low switch) Wouldnt switch between the 2 but the lights worked. Found out the contacts melted a little and doesnt make very good contact.. Its covered under warranty but im in the 100.00 deductible stage so it doesnt pay for the 80.00 switch. This only happened about 4 months ago. I have it fixed but doesnt work 100% all the time you have to wiggle the selector but im ok with that..
I did ditch the factory exhaust for a muzzy from vforce john. Sounds great and lost about 15lb off the stock one!! Muzzy comes in at about 8-10lb and stock is about 25ish lbs. No tuner yet but seems to run fine with the extra air going out.
Tires seem to be getting pretty wore but I do run in 2wd mostly and do some drifts and mess around quite a bit so no surprise there for stock tires. Id say before winter it will be time for new ones at least on the rear but plan to get them all the way around.
Brakes are about shot within the last 50 miles. Very little pad left but they are the stock ones. Keep your distance when riding and use the engine brake and you will get at least 800 miles out of them. Some guys report 200 miles which I cant even imagine what you would have to do to eat them up that quick..
To sum it all up If I had a choice to get all my money back and get something else I wouldnt. I’ve been very happy with my purchases tho I got sticker shock when I bought it but everytime I hop on it and hit that throttle I dont care anymore. Even all my friends who test ride it think its wicked for a utility!
