No spark at all. Yep, that’ll be the problem. Tried a different plug, a spare coil I had laying around… nothing. CDI box came next… served only to drain my wallet (Ouch! Those things aren’t cheap).
At this point, I’m done throwing parts at it. No way I’m dropping more money on a new stator/trigger assembly (only thing I can think left to replace) unless I do some diagnosis. Traced all the obvious wires in the CDI box igniton system, but there’s a few I’m not sure of, hoping you could help me out:
Orange & Black- Definitely goes to the coil.
White w/red stripe & Black w/red stripe- Definitely goes to the stator/pickup assy. under the flywheel
Black w/white stripe- Ignition switch supplying/denying ground?? (My best guess, but not sure)
Grey- Not a clue.
So, having NOTHING to guide me and wanting to check simple stuff first, I figured I’d check continuity to ground on that black wire with the white stripe. If it’s to the ignition switch like I suspect I should at least see continuity to ground in one key position and none in the other (no idea if ground activates or deactivates, though). No dice- it’s showing no continuity to ground in either switch position. Which means either it’s bad or I’m just wrong about what that wire does. I don’t want to ground it manually and crank it over to check for spark because if I’m wrong about what that wire does…. I’ll probably fry my very expensive new CDI box.
Is it possible this whole thing could be a faulty ignition switch?? (My luck is rarely that good)
If I at least knew which wires went where, I might have a shot at this. Any and all help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
