New (Used) Renegade 500

I’m buying a 2008 Renegade 500 tomorrow morning (subject to final inspection). I’m not all that familiar with the Renegades (or any "modern" ATV, for that matter) and was hoping that some of you could point me to the 5, 10, 20 (or more things) I need to make sure I check.

BTW, great forum! Picked up a lot of good information already!

Thanks!

Old new guy from Central Mass

Hello everyone,

Been riding bikes for 50+ years, always only owned Hondas. Never have I had to rebuild a motor. :rating10:

Did mostly dirt till about 1999 when I sold my two 86 trx350’s and bought my first Valkyrie. I now have 5 Valk’s, plus a couple of 70’s wings. When some one asks why I have 5 Valkyrie’s, I answer "Cause I don’t got 6, yet!"

Just picked up a 94 trx300fw and am in the process of stripping her down and rebuilding.

She’s in good condition for a 22 year old dirt bike, the frame is straight and most of the plastic is crack free.

Bought her off a young guy that swapped the handlebars and carb, then couldn’t get her to start.

She rolls good and has good compression, and he swears she ran fine before he messed with her. I’m not worried, whatever she needs, I’m gonna do to get her going.

One thing that is missing is the cooling fan. Is this common? Is the fan needed or is it mostly extra weight?

Looking forward to rebuilding her, got alot a parts on order, and will be looking for help here from time to time.

Thanks for looking.

CVT backing plate fix

Thought I would post some pictures of my back CVT cover nut insert reinforcement project. The 1st picture shows the size of drill bit next to the plastic hump that the nut insert is in. The next 2 pictures are the holes that I drilled in the plastic/nut insert that had spun on me. I drilled 3 holes in the one that spun, but I only drilled a single hole in the others (picture #4). After drilling the holes (I did drill into the nut threads) I put a bolt in the nut insert and then added the epoxy and needle bearing. Picture #5 is the epoxy that I used and you can see a couple of the needle bearing on the right side.

84 Atc 200es big red brake help

Ok, so I removed the brake cover, and I don’t know exactly how to remove and replace the bearings in it. I pounded the axle collar out with a hammer, and referring to the Honda shop manual, it says to next remove the snap ring, and drive the bearings out. I can’t get the snap ring out to even try. Plus, I have to disassemble the shaft for the brake lever, as it is completely seized up due to all the dirt that was in the housing. So if anyone knows how to do that please help! Lol thanks in advance!
