2006 Recon 250 – Need Help Please – pics attached

Did a lot of work already so i bring some labor and insight to the table. Now I’m stuck. Bought this recon "needs carb rebuilt". Rebuilt carb and bam, starts right up but smokes white (Seemed to start clearing up towards the end but died before it fully cleared so not sure what’s up). Anyway, I let it run idle for 20 min or so, then took it for a quick spin around the block (no air filter, but not a dusty environment)- aaannddd it dies. Like someone just pulled the spark plug wire. No noise, no stuttering, no putts, nothing. It just instantly shit the bed.

Symptoms- Won’t start, spraying a little fuel out the carb. I can feel suction AS WELL AS AIR COMING OUT of the carb kind of like a push/pull. Will occasionally putt like it wants to start, like a single combustion, but never fully cranks, and this is only with starting fluid. But still no start.

What I’ve tried- Replaced carb with new honda carb. Replaced plug. Checked for spark, it’s there. Fuel flow, it’s there too. Checked valve lash, close enough to .005 (intake seems to be at .004). Checked timing (by eye), both valves closed during TDC on compression stroke. Checked compression, 35 dry 60 wet (read on though). Put 120 psi compressed air through the spark plug hole and couldn’t hear air coming from anywhere outside the engine. Held pressure for a few seconds. Assumed piston rings at this point, removed head and poured about an inch of oil on top of piston. Oil sat there for 30 min before i removed it. So it didn’t pass the rings. Not sure if this is a good test but it seems like a pretty frickin good seal to me. Checked head gasket, no evidence of leak (no dark spots).

All this and still no luck. So here I am, at the mercy of this forum. Please don’t leave me hangin guys lol. Could really use some advice here. I’m not a mechanic but I did everything I could do before asking stupid questions. In advance, much appreciated….Adam

I bought the wrong tires….

As a newbie with only 5 hrs of ride time on my ’16 850 SP, I think I just blew a bunch of money on the wrong tires..I live in NY state where it is bone DRY right now as there has been no rain this year..It is rocky, hard pack, dusty, and LOOSE!..I swapped out the stock Maxxis CST’s for Pro Armor Attacks as I wanted the puncture resistance with 8 plys and a deeper tread pattern for better traction..but…Its not what I wanted!… in a word, the performance SUCKS…Not only has the weight of the Pro Armor’s killed the acceleration, but the machine feels downright slow..It bounces wildly uncontrollable over everything..the ride is HARD..no longer can I slip the corners using the throttle because of more roll and weight..going up rocky and loose steep inclines is a nightmare as it bounces hard off everything and always looking for traction..I realized before buying that these tires were heavier and probably perform amazing in muddy conditions, but I never expected them to feel so slow and "loose"..If anything, I thought the deeper treads would feel "quicker" accelerating and climbing but its just the opposite..I should have done more research I guess..So heres what I’m thinking and could use some help..Should I find some tires lighter and more suited to this dry terrain?..and save the Pro Armor’s for a future muddy season?..My choice has taken the fun out of my riding and I’m a bit bummed out right now..Any help would be appreciated..

Accessory Sub Harness Necessary?

After lots of research, I finally bit the bullet and bought a winch for my 2015 Rubicon. I had pretty much decided on the Warn Vantage 3000-S and when I came across one on the shelf at Cabelas, I jumped on it. I picked up a KFI mount from a dealership, but no dealership around had the accessory sub harness. That’s the last thing I need for the install, but after reading up on winch installs, it seems that not everyone uses it. I couldn’t find a thread about this, so I thought I would ask. How many of you guys with 2014+ Ranchers and Foremans and 2015+ Rubicons used the sub harness from Honda for your winch install? If you didn’t use it, did you just splice into the 12V outlet?

Also, if you have any advice on the install, please feel free to share!
