29″ Bighorn Radials on G2 outty max

I have always loved original bighorns and had 26s on my 2014 800. I have a 16′ 1000 max now and pulled the trigger in some 29x9r14 fronts 29x11r14 rear bighorns originals. I seen no threads or pics on these before I bought them so here you go. I trimmed the front fender a little for room during suspension travel. No lift just have cam locks cranked up in all 4 struts/springs. Here’s some pics. Look good. Gonna try them out Saturday. I went up the rode and with 4.5 psi the ride so smooth.

Help Bigboss middle wheel turn freely

Hello, I got a problem with my 1998 Bigboss 6×6.

Chain coming from the trans to the middle axle broke and snaped on my transmition case. I repaired the case and put on a new chain.

Now the problem or not ? is that when the 4 rear wheel are above the ground only the rear one turn with the chain. The one in the middle move freely. They dont engage with the rear one.

I was wondering if they are supposed to follow the rear one when I turn it by hand or with the power of the engine. I also saw that the middle sprocket assembly seems loose. But again I dont know if its normal or not, I just want to make sure before I put everything back together.

Thank you very much , I need this ATV to plow my driveway !

2011 sportsman spedometer won’t work

My spedometer won’t work on my 2011 sportsman 500. It lights up and everything seems to work fine except for spedometer and odometer. It shows hours, clock, and everything else.

I replaced the speedo today and still the same.

I love my little machine and although it is better if my husband doesn’t know, I would like to know the speed I am going.

Any idea would be great, especially inexpensive ones!

Hello from Canada!

Hi, my name is Michael from Quebec canada. French is my first language so sorry if sometime my english doesnt seems too perfect haha.

I have a good mechanic background with car and truck but ATV I’m completly new.

I’m the owner of a polaris big boss 1998 6×6 and a suzuki lt230.

I have been lurking for quite a while but now I decided to join as I need some answer to my questions. I hope I can help other polaris owner eventually !!!

Thank you

Michael

Extremely ripped off by Dealer? Need advice.

So a friend of mine picked up a 03′ Predator 500. Mostly stock, just had a high compression wiseco piston. It would start but idle terribly, and would die if you touched the gas. I didn’t have time to work on it for him, so he decided he wanted to take it to the local Polaris dealer in town here, and have them work on it.

Well, he took it in, they had it for about 6 and a half weeks, and after calling them numerous times, he decided to go pick it up. The mechanic said it had a broken valve spring, and a shim fell into the bottom end, so he had to split the cases? And the shim "nicked up" the crank, so he had to "clean it up". I asked him if he’s saying he had to work scratches out of the journals, and he looked pretty clueless what I was talking about.

He said he also returned it to stock, putting in a stock piston. Asked him if he put in a new sleeve, and he said "nope it looked good". So from what I can tell, he put in new valve springs, a stock piston, and split the cases for who knows what reason. Have a feeling he never split the cases, just wouldn’t make sense.

Also their mechanic wanted the service manual we had to help "speed things a long", and when he was all done, he was all "thank god for that manual, that helped so much".

But anyways, we took the quad back, just needing a new intake boot because the mechanic said it has a pinhole in it somewhere, causing the engine to die if you touch the throttle. Which doesn’t make sense to me, usually a vacuum leak like that would cause the throttle to hang. Got it back to the garage, and the intake boot clamp was completely stripped out, and extremely overtightened. So were the two bolts holding it to the engine.

In the end, the bill for this crap, was over 3 grand. And it still doesn’t run right. Ordered a new intake boot, as the old one looked fine, but their brilliant mechanic said that’s all it needs. Guess we will see? He also replaced things like the fuel pump, and fuel lines, which were totally fine, no idea why he would, and without asking the customer if he should.

This seems completely outrageous to me. My friend doesn’t know much about mechanics, can’t believe a dealer would rip someone off this bad.

Is there anything we can do about this dealer? He already paid, as they told him basically he had to, otherwise they would keep his quad.

Starter Motor Questions ( rebuild ? )

Hi all, working on getting my electric start hooked up on my new 90′ fourtrax 300. Did some troubleshooting, was able to prove that I am indeed getting power to the starter. However the starter was showing no sign of life. So I went ahead and pulled the starter off earlier. Took the starter apart and noticed quite quickly that it was full of water and dirty gunk. No real debris in there just dirty watery.

Gave it all a good cleaning and tried to reassemble. Still no sign of life. I hook the starter up to a battery and still wouldn’t work. So for those that have some knowledge on these motors, is there a way to test the brushes and rotor to see if its good still? I understand the theory just haven’t rebuilt one before! Thanks for any input in advance.
