Slightly Different Reverse Question

Hi All. First Post. Proud (new) owner of a 2002 Rancher ES. I bought it knowing it couldn’t go into reverse and am almost ready to purchase the safety sensor.

Upon re-reviewing all the various "can’t go into reverse" posts, I noticed something interesting that someone said. The discussion was in regard to whether the cable was "plugged in" to the sensor. That didn’t sit right, but maybe there’s a difference in mine WRT the year/etc.

On mine, when you press the red button down and pull the brake, the cable pulls on a lever. This is still connected and pulling the lever. It looks like a mechanical connection more so than being "plugged in", however.

Can anyone confirm that this is what plugged in means, or is there a secondary link to that sensor that could have come loose?

Also, at one point "jiggling" the cable underneath allowed it to work for a bit. No longer.

So, I’m wondering two things:

1. Does moving the lever mean that the connection is good?
2. Is it possible that the cable isn’t moving the lever "far enough"?

Thanks.

2007 Rancher Help

Hey y’all… First post here, but have been reading and learning for awhile now.

I bought a 2007 FI Rancher a few days ago with 99 miles and 24 hours. The guy who had it kept it in storage and never rode it, but did leave a full tank of ethanol gas in it….not good.

I cleaned the tank and replaced the petcock valve and what was left of the fuel filter. Now I’m in the process of putting everything back together and can’t get the factory snorkel to fit. I have tried to cram it in every empty space around the air box and I’m stuck. Hoping one of y’all can tell me what side it goes on, or happen to have a picture to help me out.

Thanks in advance!!!

My New 2017 Sportsman 570 Hunter!

Just picked it up this week! I had sold my 08 Sportsman a couple years ago and couldn’t stand not having a rig any longer! I added a 60" Glacier plow setup with the power angle on order. Can’t wait for some snow! What a huge difference in ride from my last one, the power steering is awesome!

This is a great site and i’m looking forward to adding to it!

1991 honda trx 300 kick starter trouble

good afternoon,

i have a 1991 honda trx 300 4×4. i got it on a trade for another atv and it came with some issues. the first is as there was no battery i attempted to kick start the atv. the decompression release valve was in the down position the entire time although the kick starter would not move. i assumed the piston was seized or locked up some way. i put some marvel mystery oil in it and left it for 2 days. came back and after applying a liberal amount of leg pressure managed to get the motor to roll over. the decomp valve is still in the down position. i then got ahold of a battery and tried the electric start and while it turns the motor over, with my finger over the spark plug hole, there is very little pressure, not enough to blow my finger from the hole. i did hear some kind of loose sound or rattling, maybe coming from the right side of the engine, when i did turn over the motor with the electric starter. i don’t know enough about the internal workings to determine what that noise is.

any input into how i should go about determining my problems would be appreciated. i have removed a head before and replaced piston/rings but never any valve work. if that’s needed i plan to take it to my repair shop.

thanks in advance for your help.
