problem with gen 2 renegade 1000
04 kodiak
New to the site. Never did this before. Felt like I was joining a cult just signing up. Anyway, here’s why I did.
My 04 Kodiak just quit moving. After much digging, I found that the ring gear is slipping on the axle. I find it hard to believe that the splines would just strip. Anyone ever heard of this happenening? I don’t know if I need to find a new axle, a new ring gear, or both? Anyone have any input?

Electrical / high battery voltage
I went into diagnostics mode then and when I break about 3000 rpm, it jumps straight to 18volts. The battery light is flashing and the speedometer lights start to flicker.
Is this the voltage regulator?. Is it Hard to replace?. For sportsman 400.. 2005
Does this point to any other issue?
Thanks

Got new bendix/ starter today from DB Electric. Cleaned off flywheel, housing, pulse coil, stator (used air gun for most of the cleaning around the delicate items) . It was indeed a b*@#h to get the starter out, but I got it done without having to remove belt cover. Starter was dead. All back together now and starts with on the first pick of the key. Got new pull cird/handle also today from Polaris and installed. Half a pull and she’s off.
Thanks guys.
