Tan ’99 300 Fourtrax new project

Picked up a ’99 2wd 300 that’s been sitting for a while, no compression, not exactly sure what or how deep this project will go but..this is what I’m starting with:

The good: Don’t look like it’s ever been sunk TOO bad, a lot less caked on mud than the others I’ve picked up! Tank is in great shape, all the plastic bits and pieces are there, nothing appears to be hacked up too bad. Pretty much complete except for a few odds and ends that were taken off and probably used on another bike. Exhaust looks decent. Swingarm bearings feel good.

The bad: Mud guards are trash, may not be able to salvage the front fenders, missing the front rack (but I have a few), back rack was trash (have a few of those too), missing coil, no compression, tires dry rotted, tie rod ends are trash, rear end needs bearings, seat needs a cover. Needs steering bushing.

Got the plastic off, wheels off, tore the top end down, cam chain had a ton of slack which caused it to jump time and bend the intake valve. It looks like it was bored .5mm not terribly long before it bent a valve, bore still looks good, got to get time to finish taking the jug off and measure it and the piston to find out for sure..inside of the engine is very clean.
No idea where this little build is going to go just yet..got to get some engine parts coming, get it running, and go from there.

Bent strut?

Wanting to know what your opinions are on this. The first two pictures show the top of the drivers side front strut where I’m assuming that it’s attached to the frame? And the bottom picture shows the same thing on the passenger side. It’s kind of hard to tell by the pictures but the driver side is actually pushed up against the aluminum rail and the passenger side is not, which leads me to believe something on driver side is bent. I had one incident where the strut on that side came up hard enough to dent the plastic above. I’m kinda hoping it’s just the strut and the frame wouldn’t bend that easy, but I don’t know. What do you guys think?

Drop in Cams

What kind of performance can I expect from a drop in cam. I mostly trail ride, with the occasional drag race. I would like a little more power. Across the whole power band. Not really interested in moving the power to the upper rpms. Any help would be great.

Also I know of only Webb Cams, Mr. RPM cams, and Griffin Performance cams. Are there any others or is one better than the other. Or is it personal preference.

Also I will be adding a PC5 and a HMF Titan slip on.

Thanks to all for your input.
