Hey all… as you’ll see, this is my first post here. Been reading threads here for a while though.
I’ve decided to purchase a new Sportsman 570 in Camo (I’m a sucker for camo).
A couple of questions…
I have found a 2017 stock and a 2016 with EPS both in my price range. I am thinking at the time of purchase, I’m going to have them put on a set of Kenda Bearclaw HTR’s, and maybe a winch (depending on what kind of deal I can get). Just on the stock wheels was the plan.
I will be using the quad mostly for hunting, and wooded trail riding and some day for some light snow plowing.
I have previously owned/ridden motorcycles but I the atv world, a Honda 400ex and an older Arcticat 400.
Is there anything I need to be on the lookout for, or cautious of when buying? I know from riding older quads I don’t "need" power steering, but the thought of it is pretty nice.
Howdy, I’m a newbie. I think I may have posted my question in the wrong place so this is a repeat posting. I believe I have experienced an over-voltage on my 4-wheeler causing the instrument cluster to shut off to protect the electrical system. I have a fully charged battery. The ATP 330 initially started up, ran at idle a few minutes, then abruptly shut down and all power was lost to everything, including the instrument cluster. The owners manual states "If the instrument cluster fails to illuminate, a battery over-voltage may have occured and the instrument cluster may have shut off to protect the electrical system." My question is, how do I fix this problem? Is there a circuit that needs to be re-set? I’m not able to take it to the dealer so would like to fix it on my own. Can someone offer step by step instructions? Thank you.
I looked around a bit but found nothing….so here goes.
Was all set to plow some of that wonderful white stuff that was dumped here in Michigan yesterday, brand new plow, ready to rock.
The old 700 in low gear, in AWD mode is awesome….except….when I shifted into reverse…it wouldn’t stay engaged in 4×4 AWD mode. Not sure where to start on this one….but am looking for some self help, troubleshooting directions.
* All fluids are clear and full
* AWD works flawlessly in all forward gears
* AWD light comes right back on when going from REV to FWD H or L gear.
So I tried to save a few $ and went with custom splice synthetic winch rope. It’s been about 13months , it’s used heavily since all my fellow riders have non working or crappy winches. I’m currently running the Superwinch Terra 35 and I love it, no issues at all with the winch and it gets submerged often. So in using a snatchblock would double the pull power to 7000lbs, right ?? But the rope is rated at 5400 or 6500 lbs…. I put it to the test, the rope broke trying to move a huge tree. I’m glad I went with the synthetic because my young son was near by and when the line popped it scared me ! The line only traveled like 2 ft ! Impressive and safe ! I do have an aluminum hawse fairlead and with the heavy use the line is slightly faded and furry looking, not so much frayed though …I was able to remake the splice with the help of YouTube but now it’s ten feet shorter. I’ll be trying a different brand rope this time . Any good suggestions on an inexpensive brand ?? If I could get 2 years out of it I’ll be happy ! I was thinking about trying moto alliance brand …..
We have a big storm coming tonight and I’m going to try to get the Moose plow mount installed on the bottom of a 2015 Rubicon deluxe. Last year, I took off the full skid plate and used a "universal" Moose plow mount and found the holes didn’t line up well so I bought a new model-specific mount from the local Honda dealer and want to try and install it over the skid plate.
To be able to get at it better, I was going to try and use the winch to lift the front almost straight up to get at the bottom easier. I’m gonna brace it for safety, but wanted to make sure I’m not gonna cause any issues with oil, gas or other fluids when the bike is vertical for an hour.
I have a 1998 600 Grizzly. Wasn’t running when I got it, but I have it going now. Took it out this weekend and it was struggling going up hills. The motor was revving up just fine, but it just didnt have any power. In Low it was better, but still not what it should be. Got it back in the shop and pulled off the primary sheave. When I opened it up, the weights were not even in their grooves, so no way it was functioning correctly.
Questions:
1. The service manual shows that this should be lubricated. Not sure what kind and how much. I saw a video of an after market sheave and that guy used alot (I mean really ALOT) of grease in there. With my stock sheave, should I be using ALOT of grease? Any idea on what kind? Wheel bearing grease?
2. Mine did not have an o-ring seal under the cover plate, not really sure what it would seal off anyway. Is the seal really needed?
i have a 07 420 rancher 4×4 manual shift…. its started shifting on its own in the mud.. it doesnt do it on pavement or dirt but when the tires are in mud as i reach the top of my RPM range it will shift from first to second, then if i get it up enough second to third… it never shifts down nor acts up out of the mud…. the bike doesnt have ES and never did…. any time i try to google it all i can find are ES shifting problems… beating my head off a wall here any directions where to look/ ideas what it could be are appreciated
I’m a new ATV owner and have some stupid questions, so I will apologize in advance for knowing next to nothing. I’m a 39 year old Minnesota native and have a: 2007 Sportsman 500 H.O. that I use for hunting, giving rides to my two young boys, and primarily use as an ice fishing machine.
I did a couple searches but thought I would say hello and see if anyone has any quick links.
Is there a how-to video about oil changes and basic maintenance or a thread of "stuff that’s good to know" for newbie owners? Do these things like particular types of oil?
If I wanted some replacement parts for the machine, suggestions for sites/vendors? Example – he small piece of expanded metal that protects the front end is dented and starting to rust.
The starter in the machine chatters when it’s running. Any threads that deal with fixing that?
Is there a cheap/easy way to replace the fuel-gauge sending unit? Mine shows that the tank is nearly empty regardless of fuel level.
Finally, other than basic exhaust wrap, suggestions for keeping the heat from the exhaust from melting the plastic on the right side of the machine?
Hello everyone, I’m new.
My name is Mike and I live in VA.
Thanks already for all of the great information on the forum. I look forward to spending some time learning from you.
I just bought a Polaris ATV and I haven’t even figured out what it is yet. It has some problems that I need to fix but it runs great and the price was right. It’s old, it has a 35 year badge on it but that’s it. I’m still looking for the vin.
Anyway, I’m a motorcycle guy and just learning about atvs.
