How to keep track of hours/miles

I should have asked this question at the very beginning when I joined the forum LOL but it never occurred to me at the time. How can I keep track of the miles or hours on my 2000 Rancher 350S? I purchased it on 3/12/15 and the engine had been rebuilt and all fluids flushed and replaced and a number of parts were also replaced, so it basically had no hours/miles on it. Since I bought it, if I had to guess….it might have 20 hours of use if even that much.

Just like any vehicle, I know it would be necessary to know this for maintenance. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

trx 350 piston rings

I recently bought my first Honda atv, and it needs a bit of work. Its a 2006 rancher 350 FE. It smokes and seems to be lacking power, and I believe it needs new piston rings. I am planning on replacing all the gaskets and piston rings, but I have never done this before, so I am deciding if I want to do this on my own, or take it into a mechanic. I have experience with basic repairs and maintenance, but I have never had to do anything inside the engine block. It also needs a new clutch bearing, so Ill do that too. I talked to a mechanic, and If I do take it to a mechanic, Ill remove the engine from the machine to save a couple hundred bucks. the mechanic charges 79$ an hour, and told me that it would be 5-6 hours for the whole machine, and 2-3 for just the engine. so the question is, Should I do it myself and save a few hundred dollars, or take it into the shop to be safe?

XMR tuning help needed

Hey guys, just bought a 2017 Outlander XMR 1000R in triple black. I ordered and installed an HMF performance series exhaust (Sounds amazing) and an optimizer. I ran it with the pre-programmed settings (0-4-0). Then looked around on the forums and found 1-3-1. Neither of those seem to work, as even sitting idling for 5 minutes it seems to get relatively hot. The initial settings seemed too lean…so I richened it up. If anyone has any advice as to what I should set it at, that would be greatly appreciated. Live in PA at ~730 feet. Maybe since the weather isn’t great and it’s cold, that would be something to factor in? Or the fact that it only had 2.2 miles on the engine. Like I said, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, guys!!

16′ Sportsman 570 VS 16′ Kodiak 700

New to the forum and looking to buy either the 16" Sportsman 570 or the 16" Kodiak 700. Depending on what I’ve read and who I talk to, the consensus seems split as to which bike I should buy and which is better.

Is the Polaris AWD TRULY more effective than the base Kodiak LSD 4X4?

Also, is the Kodiak frame large enough for a 6’4 235lb rider? (Asking because I’m deployed overseas, no dealerships here to walk in and sit on one lol)

I also was wondering if EPS is really necessary?

I own a Yamaha Stryker (Cruiser) and love the Yamaha quality but my Dad and several other guys in my Dept swear by Polaris and say get the Sportsman

Thanks for any input. Looking forward to hearing your responses!

2001 Rancher vs. 1988 Foreman

I removed/cleaned the fuel tank and rebuilt the carburetor. It started right up. Kudos to me on the rebuild, yea! I rode the 2001 Rancher for the first time today and all the previous advice about ride quality was dead-on. One thing that stood out to me was the lack of 21cc. Hit the throttle on the ’88 foreman and the motivation is close behind in XL1st gear or 2nd gear.

My questions:

1.) Does my assessment of pick up and seat-o-the-pants performance ring true? I am 6’1" 275 (husky, right?) but the difference in motivation was very apparent.

or, is it a tuning issue?

2.) I am still at the initial 1.75 turns out on the pilot screw. Can anyone on the boards help me with optimizing the performance beyond the seat-o-the-pants. I have one of the those tachometers from on-line and I have yet to consult the service manual about performance and carb tuning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE – I used a trick I learned on TV to clear up the cloudy fuel gauge, Toothpaste on a soft rag and vigorous elbow grease. Cleared it right up. You need to use the abrasive baking soda whitening type toothpaste.

Help with a loose wire

Working on some things on my 2015 XP 1000 and removed front covers to get to the battery. when I opened it up, I found this wire unplugged. Should this be plugged together, or is it intentional for use on something else? The wire is orange with white stripe. the only place I can find it on the fuse block is on one labeled "Unswitch 10amp". BTW, everything seems to be working…

New owner

Just picked up a 2014 can am 1000 xtp. Has plow, hand/thumb warmers. 540 miles (one owner)

Have some intimidator 28" tires on the way on msa rims.

I do have a Quick question. I see a lot of 2 inch lift kits meant for the XT but they don’t mention whether or not the XTP would use the same kit. Because this has the fox shocks on it, is there a different kit that’s required or are they compatible?

Im coming from a polaris and am very happy…

1998 300ex ticking

Just bought a 1998 300ex, its runs and rides great all the power is there but it has a loud ticking tapping noise coming from the top front of the motor at idle and acceleration. I’ve also noticed that smoke comes out of the gasket where motor meets the exhaust pipe. I’m not the most mechanically inclined person, any ideas what this is? And is it bad to continue riding? Bike has no issues with bogging down.
