Hello All,
I’ve been lurking in here for the past week trying to absorb as much information as I can from you folks.
Here is my story: I picked up a 1995 FourTrax 300 4×4 on Monday.
I had my first real opportunity to ride it on Saturday for about two hours (maybe 20 miles of grassy trails and gravel roads) The oil level before the ride was half way up the stick on level ground. Two hours later, the oil was not even touching the stick. I had to add quite a bit to get it back to the halfway mark. It fires right up, idles fine, and has a good amount of power. Runs perfect. It does not smoke or have any smell of smoke in the exhaust at idle. At WOT it doesn’t leave a trail of smoke from what I could tell. No oil spots in the trailer either. Having previously had "good deals" turn into projects, I was really paying attention to how it sounded and if it was smoking. I’m baffled. Any ideas?

I once had an ’86 LT230 that smoked like a chimney but the oil level never dropped like this did.
If we are talking top end work here, how much am I looking at?
Thank you,
