So took my new Sportsman XP1000 out into the woods (about 12 miles in) and noticed the display indicated "Lo 11.3", which turned out to be the battery voltage. I immediately started heading back, and before I made it a mile the electronic power steering cut out. Next was the cooling fan, which caused it to overheat a few minutes later. It seemed to go into a "limp" mode almost immediately where the engine RPMs would go up and down as it someone was hitting the on/off switch. Within a few seconds, it quit altogether; I could hear the coolant going from the radiator into the reservoir so knew it overheated. After towing it 10 miles out of the woods, I loaded it up and took it home. It jump starts fine, and looking at voltage with a meter it shows 14.3 volts at the battery terminals while at idle. It was obvious to me during the failure that no battery charging was going on, so taking it to the dealer in the morning. Has anyone seen this happen? I didn’t have headlights or anything else on, so not sure how/why the generator/regulator quit.
