Hey, 60 year old, new to ATVs and mountain riding. Not new to off road motorcycles. Live on the Western Slope of Colorado.
Purchased my first ATV/Grizzly, a 2009 700 about two months ago and have put 500 miles on it since. Just bought another 09 700 today. I already have an issue.
The machine I picked up today is instantly noticeably stronger in the low to midrange than the first one. With the first one I had nothing to compare it to, but always thought a 700 ought to be stronger. I am going to say it tries to bog (it doesn’t but seems like it wants to if that makes since) in the lower rpms but never really does, just doesn’t feel crisp and eager to go. It seems to have plenty of power to do what it needs but the more recent one just feels a lot better and I have only ridden it in the parking lot.
Anyway, does anybody have a suggestion on where to go first in trouble shooting this? The first one has 2500 miles on it and second on e has around 1600 miles. On #1 I have changed the oil and it was fairly clean looking. Cleaned the air cleaner though it wasn’t bad. Put a new sparkplug in as a matter of course, the original looked good. Check for dragging brakes (you can tell a difference in the way the motor responds even in neutral/park). It’s not getting over heated. It’s like the timing is slow but not sue how to check that yet.
Thanks
Carl
