I would like to start a forum discussion on Street Legal Riding. The forum would attract subject titles and discussions on particular requirements for riding ATVs on secondary roads (45 mph posted roads), the street legal equipment necessary as it varies from state to state (license, insurance, turn signals, etc), experiences taking an afternoon ride on secondary roads (riding around the lake), adjustments to the Can Am ATV and UTV to make them street legal and maybe a bit safer (hard surface tires). This forum topic could also discuss and advise the best approach to gaining a street legal law in a particular state. I think this forum could be in the General ATV Topics forum category.
I feel street legal laws would be a boon to the ATV hobby. It would make our machines more enjoyable. We could legally ride down the street to plow out a neighbor’s driveway, we could legally ride down the road like we would on a motor scooter or bicycle.
I believe if we could ride legal on secondary roads we would reduce the pressure on our ATV trails. Trails can be crowded on weekends with people who have pent up desires to ride their machines. If we could ride on secondary roads, some of this desire to ride would be relieved.
There are certainly forum members who disagree with riding ATVs on the roads due to safety issues and the like. We would seek to understand all considerations involved in making ATV street legal laws. There may be many folks who would not go to the effort to make their Can Am street legal, and that is perfectly acceptable.
I see your Forum title relating to ATVs in Minnesota toward the bottom of the forum listing. This is my old home state. The forum talks about legislative actions taken in Minnesota. There has been no activity in this forum topic for some time. But I understand Minnesota now allows street legal ATV riding in the rural communities with an inspection and license. This is great news.
The Can Am ATV Forums should address all aspects of the ATV hobby.
Thanks for your consideration
