New BRP 12gal Cargo Box Review

Just picked up the new BRP 12gal/45L cargo box and thought I would do a review on it since I couldn’t find any others. First off I have never been a fan of many of the giant storage boxes/seat boxes that are out there, I don’t like the look of them nor do I need that much storage capacity, for my needs I was looking for a more streamlined box. I started off with with a Moose front storage box and just used it on the back, it was the one they sell designed to hold two 5L jerry cans, I just took those out when I didnt need them and used it to pack my stuff, but I was never happy with it, not enough room and the dividers for the gas jugs were annoying.

I made due with it but when I saw BRP had brought out a smaller box I went to the dealer and checked it out. I was skeptical at first because of all the bad reviews I’ve read about the larger 32gal LinQ box but this one seems very solid and seems to be made out of a fairly thick molded plastic and offers just the right amount of space for my needs.

It mounts with two LinQ adapters in the front corners, that are a part of the box like the one on the small detectable storage that comes on the Outlander Max, they aren’t the removable LinQ adapters that are used on a lot of the other accessories, that many have had issues with them rattling loose. Very solid mounts, and in the rear it used an aluminum hook that slides into one of the center LinQ openings to secure the back from rocking back and forth:
I wouldve liked to have seen another LinQ adapter here but the hook does work very well, the box is rock solid on there.

My only grip was the seal on the lid, wasnt quite sold on it being able to keep the dust and water out. Theres a rubber seal on the inside of the lid, and it sealed well in the front close to the latches but on the sides it didnt appear to seal up as tight. To remedy that I bought a roll of 3/8×3/4×10 foam weather stripping, cut it in half and ran a strip of it around the whole box. Worked like a charm:

Overall I’m happy with the purchase, time will tell how it holds up but at this point I don’t anticipate having any issues with durability, it seems very solid. As for the value its a mixed bag, BRP has it listed for 229.99 Canadian, your dealer may sell it to you for less but that is the MSRP. Is it worth 230 dollars? No, its definitely over priced but it doesn’t lack quality, and its not too far off what most of the aftermarket boxes sell for (the moose box I pictured above I paid 160 plus tax for), and for its size and the convenience of being able to take it off quickly with the LinQ system it was worth the additional cost to me.
