My iPad Air 2 mount…

I was using my iPhone 6, with a ram mount, mounted to the steering wheel shaft using Gaia-GPS as my navigation APP. It worked well but the old eyes aren’t what they used to be and needed something a little bigger. I followed a lot of posts using an iPad mini mounting it to the center flip down storage box cover. Nice but I already have an iPad Air 2 and didn’t want to buy another iPad.

I moved the center mirror to the left side to free up the center for the iPad, and actually I think I can see over the rear tire mount better than when it was in the center. I ended up putting the iPad in a Lifeproof Nuud cover it’s water resistant and will keep the Arizona dust out of the openings. I then ordered a 10’ lightning connector and fished it up the left side “A” pillar and ran the USB side into the hole in the bottom of the center storage box (actually I ran the lightning plug through the hole first then fished it up the pillar). For power I mounted a Blue Sea 1016 dual USB charger socket in the back of the box. I ran the power through a dash switch so I don’t have the charger on when it is not needed.

I used ram mounts and their expandable iPad holder. I only took it out for a short run it appears to hold the iPad well and I don’t anticipate any problems. Before I started the project I talked with RAM and asked them it the one-inch ball mount would hold the iPad securely with my application and was told it will work fine.

Hope this helps others and spurs more ideas….
