Monticello Utah ride

I’ll post up some pictures later, but for now I’ll describe the ride.

I’ll start off saying that Monticello is a dump! 3 gas stations, 5 motels, and a couple of convenience stores. The motel we stayed in was the nicest in town, out of 5…. Only one of the restaurants had good food….this place is pathetic as far as amenities go!

Now for the ride….the Manti-La-Sal national forest is a 10 minute drive west of town, which is cool. Its 1.2 million acres. The trails start off around 8000 feet and peak out at around 11,000 feet. Its a mix of forest roads and 50" atv trails….we did 110 miles worth in 2 days. There is only one black diamond section of trail, which is about 5 miles long, but its mean….big boulders and steep, loose hill-climbs. The rest of the trails are blue and green rated, which are just nice trails to ride.

The riding is very similar to the Front Range of Colorado….its good….but no better than what we have locally.

The one REALLY nice thing about this area….there was nobody out there…..we didn’t see a single person, or atv the entire two days of riding….that’s pretty awesome!

Since Colorado Springs is an hour away from our trail system, our local trails are a freaking zoo….so this was a nice change.

Another awesome thing about Utah…..its legal to ride on the paved county roads….which we did to connect to other trails, so we could make a loop. That’s really nice! In Colorado, you’ll get a hefty ticket for doing that!

I’ll get the pictures downloaded and post them up.
