Rode at Hidden Falls last weekend. RZR started making a loud grinding noise like I was dragging beer cans. When I pulled into camp, I put it in park, killed it and it kept trying to run like it was dieseling for a few seconds. Then it grunted, died and went poof and black smoke boiled out from under the bed. We pushed into the trailer and came home. When I pulled the cover I found the starter wire was burnt and starter was fried, froze up. I had a new starter so I replaced starter, wire and solenoid. When I crunk it there was a definite tapping from the head and it wouldnt idle but maybe 20 seconds and was like something was choking it down. The air filter is clean. Throttlebody is clean, never had any dirt in it. The oil is clean. The starter man was thinking the drive had hung up explaining the grinding noise, but I’m wondering if it tried to jump time and bent a rod. Or is it possible the oil pump is not working? timing belt or gear? I havent read much on the motor, never had any motor problems so I’m gonna have to learn real quick. I’m gonna pull the pipe and valve cover tomorrow. Any help would sure be appreciated.
