I read through the manual, the oil section, and put regular yellow bottle penzoil 10w30 in the engine. Wasn’t trying to be cheap, I just have a few gallons of it around and thought it was the right stuff.
He rode it for a couple days hasn’t had any issues. He generally doesn’t leave second gear and just drives it around the house.
I was reading the manual today and noticed that I am idiot and didn’t read the whole section about oil TYPES not just the weight. I have since read all of the horror stories on forums about slippage, friction modifiers, engine damage etc.
I am very pissed that I was so stupid.
This is the first quad I have ever worked on and I have never had a motorcycle, it was just a stupid mistake. I am draining the oil tomorrow and replacing with the correct Honda oil.
My concern is that unknown damage has already been done and not all of the wrong oil is going to drain (.4 qt left behind) Am I being too paranoid?
Thanks for any help in advance.
