I have been doing a lot of work to the ole’ 2010 Sportsman 400 (Hawkeye) lately. Got it mostly back together, still need a new prop shaft and put back on all the plastics. Started it up today and noticed this gawd awful ticking sound. It sounded like it was coming from the oil reservoir and when I removed the cap it gets louder. It doesn’t start as soon as the engine runs but about 30 seconds after. I have attached a video that captures what I am describing really well. (Remember it’s about the sound not the picture)
While the bike was all apart I changed the oil even cleaned out the sump. I keep trying to create the air suction in the oil reservoir but can’t tell if I am doing it right as I don’t hear the sound that the book describes. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated!
One thing to note is that this thing has the roller clutch maybe it is just a reverberation from that? Never noticed it before tho.
