I’ve been going thru my 1997 Kodiak before winter and the last thing I need a bit of help with is with the lack of charging of the battery while driving or at idle. The battery is fine, reads 12.8 volts before starting, once I start the ATV the voltage drops to 12.4 volts at idle and if I rev the engine the voltage drops further – while running the engine the voltage should read about 14.3 volts.
I’ve already checked the stator by probing the 3 white wire plug – all readings were at 0.8 ohms so it’s good. But I’m having a problem locating the source coil electrical connector (2 pin plug with a brown & green wire) and the pick up coil electrical connector (2 pin plug with a red & white wire). These plugs are supposed to be located next to the CDI box but no plugs that fit this description are there. In the attached picture, am I looking in the right spot?
Also, while looking around for these plugs I found this – I’m assuming it’s not a factory Yamaha starter solenoid, it has one terminal end with no wire attached. Still starts good though:
