One thing I have noticed….have seen several 650 XMR’s with rear pinion seals leaking, usually letting water in, and destroy the rear pinion bearing. I couldn’t see why is was getting so common, and I figured out why.
The 1000 XMR, as well as 800XMR, and the new 850 XMR have 2 bearings on the pinion shaft for extra support, whereas the 650 has a single pinion bearing.
Also, the same diff used in the current 1000XMR is being used in the new XMR bikes, BUT is ONLY used in the 1000/850XMR’s, and NOT on NON_XMR machines, including the Outlander L XMR, which also shares the same diff as the rest or the standard models.
So for anyone wondering…..they did NOT update ALL machines to the stronger diffs, you still have to get the XMR 1000 or 850 to get the heavy duty stuff!
