2005 Honda TRX400EX
Current Issue:
Starts Fine (needs no choke, 70 degree weather)
Idles, revs, and sounds awesome (to me), great throttle response, after starting, in neutral
Under load, driving around, also seems great to me. (these things are crazy!)
After romping around on it for a few minutes, when I park it, put it back in neutral and rev it… misfires and pops from the exhaust
Start driving it and it seems okay. Let it cool and it seems okay.
Back Story:
Friends quad
Had “carb problems about 4 years ago
Couldn’t figure out how to get the carb out to spray-clean it
Let it sit with gas in tan and valve “on” for 4 years
I arrange to take a look at it
Float needle is glued into the seat
After soaking, am able to carefully pry it out
Soak the carb for several hours after removing the parts
Install rebuild kit, setting pilot to 2.5 off the seat and needle clip to center position
Reinstall in quad
IT Starts! (my first carb maintenance of any kind), but only idles, ,misfires/sputters when revved
Take it back out, move needle clip one step towards the point (more open)
Put it all back in the quad and now we are at the current issue. Just when I thought it was running perfect.
