This time its a 190 hour 2011 Grizz 700. The bike hit a water filled hole at speed, rider went over the handlebars and dad sold it for $700 with a title.
The motor hydro locked, the steam ripped a 1" swath of nikasil off the cylinder. You can see most of the nikasil on the oil pickup screen. The shock wave crushed the needle bearing in the crank.
No other damage..head, valves etc are fine and like new. has the upgraded reverse gear etc..
Otherwise the bike is clean, complete, with some nice Mud Lites and no other mods.
had the cylinder replated for $200…they did a nice job.
had the crank rebuilt for $97 including shipping and $130 in stock Yamaha parts. New rod, needle bearing and crankpin. They also did a fine job and took about 10 days to return the crank.
here are some pics…
Oh just so you know……..I used a factory service manual, torque wrench and all Yamaha parts that I bought at a discount. All stock. Yup, I did have to pull the engine and split the case to remove the crank.
And those needles from the bearing were round and straight before the "accident"
if you have a clean place to work and are not in a rush , its doable.
