How long is too long

First off I’m a newbie.

I picked up an 05 sportsman 800 in mid October. Dropped it off at the local Polaris dealer at the end off October due to overheat issues.

This is what the dealer came back with. I authorized them to tear down and then to go ahead and replacement of rings. This was first week of November. The next day the dealer tells me ring kit is on back order. It’s been a month and all they can tell me is Polaris is waiting on the parts.

How long should this take? What can I do?

TEAR DOWN ENGINE TO GET ESTIMATE FOR PARTS AND DAMAGE

PULLED TOP END OF MOTOR APART AND MEASURED CLINDER AND PISTON RINGS. THE RINGS NEED TO BE REPLACE AS THEY MEASURE ABOVE THE ALLOWABLE LIMIT

Piston rings are out of factory spec. Rings are unable to seal to cylinder wall causing fuel to blow by and why engine failed leak down test. Code 42 is Engine temp sensor circuit: short to ground. Engine temp sensor circuit: open or short to battery. When motor is rebuilt tech will test temp sensor and wire harness. Engine is overheating due to improper function of thermostat. Will know more after electrical diag. of system.
