*HELP* 2006 Sportsman 450

Whats goin on guys,

So I live in the Ohio area, and I was out tonight plowing the driveway for the first time ever! This is the first quad I’ve owned, so I dont know much about them, just the basics. Anyway, I had the plow set up, running it in 4 wheel drive, and it was doing fine. Using the winch to pick the plow up and down, lights were also running. The bike was running fine, I got off it to adjust the plow and it stayed at idle just fine, got back on and continued the process.

About 15 mins into the plowing, I stopped the bike to turn it around to go back
down the driveway, and the second I let off the throttle, the bike shut down. When I went to try to start it again, with the key start, the starter made a grinding noise, it wasnt turning over. The best way I can describe the grinding was as if the machine was running already, and you turned the key. Thats the noise it made. After a few tries, I resorted to the pull start, and half a pull and she started right up, no issues. Then I put the bike into gear again and unless I was physically giving it gas, it died out again. Luckily I was done with the driveway so I kept my thumb on the gas, put it into drive, and put the bike away. I dont know why It would stall out like that, also why the starter was griding?

Any questions I’ll be happy to answer about this…just wondering what I can do to maybe fix it, or to just give a check to see what is going on as a possible problem..

Thanks in advance,
