Grizzly 700 top speed is SLOW!?!?!??

I have a 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 700. I have had about 10 different 700’s and 550’s and 660’s so i know what to expect and all have had a top speed on asphalt 63-66mph depending on tire/wheel size, weight, etc.

ALL of them have ripped 63mph pretty darn easy and got there pretty quickly.

My current 700 only has 1500 miles but it tops out at 56-57mph and takes a LONG time to get there-I have to hold it open for almost a mile to get to 56mph. it takes a long time to gain speed after 40-45mph.

I took apart clutch today and cleaned it out good, weights were perfectly round and grease was in good shape. The belt was completely chewed up and I found a piece of stone floating around in there (I assume the piece of stone came in the vent tube or something and chewed up the belt and pitted the primary sheave. I cleaned out the grease, replaced it, roughed up the primary with some sand paper and replaced belt with a new one and my top speed didn’t change at all..

It has good power, wheelies pretty easy and FEELS strong but my brothers 550cc is faster from a stop, from a roll, and at top speed and he is 100% stock and has 28” big horns on 14” wheels (very heavy setup). I have 27” zillas but top speed was the same when I had the stock wheels/tires on too.

my father in laws also KILLS me in a race he is also a stock grizzly 700 and we raced with both having stock tires.

I can’t figure it out but i KNOW something is wrong.…..
