Grizzly 660 Engine ‘Rattle’

Hey folks, I picked up a used 2007 660 and put a few hundred miles on it this summer.
I had the skid plates and plastics off for cleaning recently and noticed a slight metallic chirp after the engine had warmed up while riding. A friend noticed some wear in the front drive shaft so I replaced it. With the new shaft the sound seemed to get louder and become a metallic whistle or rubbing noise. I pulled apart the CVT, it was very clean for an older machine, the belt is pretty new, I replaced the one way bearing in an attempt to stop the noise.
It has now progressed to a rattle, almost like a chain but not a knock yet.
When starting the engine the noise comes through in neutral very slightly and gets louder with speed. When I put it into 4×4 the noise changes and is almost inaudible. The machine starts a little rough and takes some time to warm up before I can hit the throttle without it choking out, so a carb clean is next on the list.
Could the noise be a valve thing? Timing chain? Front diff?
New to the forum, any ideas would be great, thanks.
