So I discovered that the last person to tighten the front axle nut stripped the first few threads. So after taking it off, installing new bearings and reinstalling nut, I had a lot of trouble getting the nut to start. After a few blows with a hammer it finally started and I was able to tighten it up to the spec (80 ft/lbs) (actually probably went to 100 ft/lbs) and install a new cotter pin. I realize it probably needs to be replace anyway, but should I worry about it loosing with faulty threads, even though I was able to tighten it to specs?
