engine brake

i did a search for EBS and "engine brake" did not find what i was looking for.

i have a 2016 900 XC EPS. had it for two days now. 2.5hrs on the thing.

today i was in the woods and i had the machine in Low gear with AWD on and was going down a pretty steep loose dirt hill. at the bottom were two trees one left, one right, to both sides of my path. at first i had my foot on the brake and i began to slide as all 4 wheels were locking up. i could not control my direction obviously. i quickly released the brake hoping to regain steering and miss the trees but the EBS kicked in and again was powerful enough that it locked the wheels up and i still had no steering. thankfully i manage to make my mark and miss the trees.

second issue i encountered with the EBS was when jumping. i found a nice little hill that i managed to get all four wheels off the ground on. i was in High gear with AWD on and again when i landed the EBS kicked in and made for a rather unpleasant sudden jerk.

after thought was if had the machine in 2wd for both instances it might not have been as harsh because with the AWD on the EBS effects all 4 wheels.

also for the hill decent part if i had thrown it in Neutral i would have been able to better control my self with the brakes but who wants to try and remember that all the time.

in closing my question is how does the EBS work ? is it in the belt drive system/clutches ? is it electronic ? if so can i interrupt its function with maybe an on/off switch mounted on the dash ?

noob looking for some technical help please excuse my ignorance any and all help or criticism is appreciated haha thanks.
