I am in the market for a new ATV, and I am considering a Can-am. In doing my research, I’ve seen a lot of people upgrading their clutches. My question is…..why? If CVTs are so awesome (according to the propaganda), why would they need to make the modifications? I am not bashing them, I simply want to understand it to the point to see if it’s in the cards for me.
My plans are an Outlander 570 or 650, probably the Max model. I don’t plan on going taller than the factory 26" size, and my riding preferences will be basic trail riding, hunting, etc, including packing out downed game. Most of my time will be below 35 mph, and I will ride mostly 1up, with 2up on the rare occasion.
How do I know if a clutch upgrade would suit my purpose? Is this a case of squeezing or tailoring finite levels of performance, or is it a "necessity"? If a necessity, how do I know which setup is the correct one? I’m just trying to understand it.
