I at first thought maybe a worn belt due to my current belt having 2000 miles so I replaced the belt, cleaned the clutches, cleaned the new belt with soap and installed. Then broke in in 2 15 minute heat cycles starting in low and then working to high gear varying throttle constantly and speed and staying below 3/4 throttle. After that I opened it up and found that it was a little faster than with my old belt but still topped out around 52mph. I checked the speedometer on the RZR as well because these tires were a hair taller than my big horns. I was side by side with my father in his teryx with his digital speedometer that is on and mine matches right up to his speed so I would guess that the speedometers on both machines are not off by that much. And I know I can’t be going much more than 50 because he can almost keep up I just slowly pull away and his is governed at 49mph. And we used to race and it was a drivers race 0-49 depending on traction and the jump and he just blows my doors off now.
I replaced the factory tires with Innova Mud gears. The front is a 26×10 and the rear is a 26×12. I know these have a more aggressive lug on them than the big horns and are slightly heavier. Fronts unmounted say 27lbs and rears 33lbs. According to the specs I found my front maxxis weighted 23lbs and the rears 30lbs.
I figured I would lose some speed and top end but as much as I did seems crazy. The rest of the machine is the same and it is still in good running condition the air filter has about a month of riding and it has not been super dusty so it should not be a restricted air filter causing a lack of power.
I am just curious if getting a clutch kit for a bigger/heavier tire would help. Right now it just seems to be almost bogged down in a sense.
EDIT: I just want to know in people’s minds who have re clutched for a factory sized tire that is a bit heavier have you been happy or does it not seem worth the pain and hastle to do? I know that I added roughly 14lbs rotating mass which is a huge amount of weight so I just want to know if re clutching would at least make the machine a fair amount closer to the stock power feel and gain me back some top end. I can’t seem to hit rev limiter on top out now which I am sure is attributed to the heavier more aggressive tire.
Thanks.
