New member here and new to quads. I just bought a used 2006 Sportsman X2 500 EFI quad to use hunting in Montana. I’ve been enjoying it. Here’s a photo from yesterday’s ride:
Everything was going great. I couldn’t believe how well the quad handled in the mud and snow. Then, after a long downhill it began to bog when I applied more than a tiny bit of throttle. I was starting to fear a long walk out. I was scared to turn it off for fear it wouldn’t start again. Then after 5-10 minutes of the problem, it went away and it ran great. In fact, I discovered the bog was gone when it took off and I almost ran off the trail
I called the original owner and we thought it might be icing. Conditions were upper 20’s/low 30’s, slushy snow and mud. I’ve experienced carb icing on motorcycles before and this was similar. Since it’s fuel injected it’s not the carb that ices but I’m guessing maybe the intact tract. Or should I look elsewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help.
