Cly 2 timing chain popped off

07 outlander 800, thought the valves were making noise, so I popped the valve cover off. To my surprise, the timing chain was behind the cam gear, and the tensioner was worn right through. Thing still ran, had a loud tick from cyl 2 but never noticed a decrease in power while riding.

Curious if these engines are interference type, and how I go about diagnosing the cause without putting it back together and firing it up. Going to pull the head off tonight and see what the valves look like.

Any input welcome, haven’t ripped a quad engine apart before but rebuilt many engines in cars/trucks and such.
