Clicking sound when key turned on

Hello everyone, I could use some advice.

My 2014 Rancher 420 has been acting up this last week. About 4 days ago i noticed that when the steering is at full lock to the left there is a clicking that i can hear and feel that corresponds with the wheel rotation. I checked the cv boots and they are good but I suspected it was a cv joint and I would fix it when I can. Yesterday the thought crossed my mind for some reason to try 2wd, and discovered that the clicking only happens in 4wd.

Today things got a little worse. When riding back at the end of the day I went down a small hill at very slow speed in 1’st and the quad made a bit of a whirling sound. It made the same sound again in the next 4km but i couldn’t really replicate it by engine braking. When we got back to the truck it was idling for a few minutes and the red temperature light to the right of the screen was on and the temp icon as well. I turned it off and now there is a sort of clicking sound for a few seconds when you turn the key on before starting. It does this every time in, 2wd and 4wd.

So I’m not really sure what the problem is. It seems like this new sound in coming from the front diff, definitely the front side of the quad. It was pretty dark but will check the oil tomorrow. I have 4 or 5 more days of work here and will be riding ~20km per day and I’ll keep it in 2wd when I can.

Does anyone have any ideas or things I can do to keep the quad going for a few days. It still rides fine, but I dont want to grenade anything before I can get it back home. I should add that the week before this all happened was -7c and the quads were very iced up. Ice would prevent full steering at first. We cleaned them as best as we could but driving in muskeg made that a loosing battle.

Thanks a lot.
