i am looking to get a new kodiak for home use and moderate trail rides i live in northern nj my main uses will be yard cleanup a light dump trailer and snow plowing i love the grizzly but its out of the budget i was looking at the kodiak eps or the kodiak se i saw an eps today and like the size
my question is the extra money to jump to the se worth it do i need the push button 4wd or is the cable less to break (correct me if im wrong but the cable is a lever that you rotate 180 degrees and locks into 4wd)
secondly is the locker necessary? if so can i add it down the rd aftermarket
i saw a esp camo for 7600 today i can add a winch and plow and be done
Went riding the other day and my battery ended up falling out of the mount and it pulled my starter solenoid off the frame. The Kodiak will only start now when I touch the two bolts together with a screw driver. Does anyone know how to put the solenoid back on the frame so it will work the right way? It’s a 95 kodiak 400.

Long story short the piston ate the*cylinder*walls. Took jug off, replaced with over sized piston and had jug machined to new piston. Got it all back together and crank timing is kicking my tail. I turn the 17mm bolt on the crank to the TDC timing mark per service manual, set cam to straight up to align with*cylinder head*mark andinstall timing chain. When I crank it it will back fire and not hit a lick. Not even hit good one time. Spark is good. Carburetor is brand new. I’ve checked TDC with a straw to see if*flywheel*keyway is there and it is where it should be. What am I missing?
I recently bought a 2001 Kodiack 400 ultramatic 4×4. It runs good, only problem is top speed is 19 mph. I checked the belt( seemed in good shape),I cleaned and regreased the primary. The clutch does perfect in neutral, but won’t travel up the sheaves in gear. Any ideas on this issue? I’m lost, pls help

Ive been reading around and some great knowledge on this site, very impressive! I hate for my first post to be begging for help but I found this fourm by trying to google on my subject so I guess this is appropriate.
I rode most of my life but as time went on, more and more trails were being closed to quads and we drifted away from the sport. I recently picked up a 1996 Kodiak to help with chores around the house and of course for fun!
The brakes were shot on both front and back. I was able to rehab the rear drum and they work ok. The fronts are a lost cause as the drum and piston (? actuates the shoes) were busted up beyond repair.
After reading more on this, I thought converting to disc was the best option…maybe I am wrong… : )
I found some hubs/rotors/calipers off a 99 Kodiak for cheap but no spindles. Ive seen some 2000 Kodiak spindles on ebay but I am not sure they will fit with the 99 parts (part numbers are diff) or even fit on the 96.
I have the resources to make some mods if need be.
Hey guys, I have a 2000 Kodiak 400. The quad is in excellent condition and even though its older, it sat in a garage for almost all its life until i bought it from the original owner. It runs and drives great but will only get up to about 25-30 mph before it hits the rev limiter. What could possibly be holding it back, or is this normal for this bike? Like I said, engine runs great, carb has been cleaned, new air filter. Could it be something with the auto trans? Belt doesn’t seem to be slipping at all though. Appreciate any help, thanks!

I have an 04 Kodiak 450 that I purchased new. Not used much. Only 310 miles. For years I have had an intermittent problem where the atv would not go into gear; most of time when it was on a weird angle or tipping left or right. Now it has gotten much worse. The shift lever seems to shift okay but intermittently tranny will not catch into gear. Engine just revs sometimes (no atv movement) , makes a constant clacking as if its rubbing on a gear but not catching enough to fully engage or just revs and will not move. IT DOESN’T SOUND LIKE ITS GOOD for the tranny, gear box or whatever the problem may be. I usually hear a constant clacking noise. What is keeping atv from going into and/or staying in gear and catching with the shift lever properly? It seemed to get much worse when I took atv out in the snow last winter (water get in somewhere?).
I had ALL of the fluids changed out last summer. The battery is relatively new.
2nd: Intermittently fan runs constantly? Won’t shut off.
3rd: How do I change antifreeze?
Thanks for help with any question you can answer! 🙂
Best oil to use for 04 Kodiak? Something synthetic?
