31 inch vs 33 inch tires

Is the added inch clearance worth the extra weight. Looking at new tires. Efx motohammers wearing very fast. 600 miles on them and are more than half gone. Ride rocky trails and rock crawling. Already run 3 inch lift. 33’s will just fit I think without going to forward a arms. What do you all think. Like the idea of 33’s but not sure how xp1000 will handle them in fast trail riding and the occasional hill climb.

I Guess I Did Jinx Myself… just when I said the 1000 has been flawless…

I went to do some installs today (ZBros radius rods, Factory UTV skids/guards, Rhino axles, Heel Clicker clutch kit, etc.) since I finally have a weekend home with nothing planned. Well, sure enough as soon as I jack up the back of the 1000 and go to pull the wheels I see notice just a wheeeeeee bit of play in the back left hub:

I look a bit closer and see that the cotter-pin on the axle-nut is gone, and the axle nut is backed out nearly all the way. I run that back down, but the hub/wheel bearings is clearly completely thrashed too. Then, something else catches my eye:

…yup, the outter brake pad is completely missing. Not like the friction material is worn down, but the pad, backing plate and all is completely gone. If you look you can see how the inner pad’s backing plate slides over the caliper slide studs. Well, the outer does that too. I really can’t imagine how everything moved around enough to actually let the pad fall completely off, but I guess it did. I suppose it could have broke to pieces, but I can see the steel backing plate breaking like that.

For reference this is at about 1300-1400 miles (I don’t recall how many miles were on the factory dash exactly before I put the Interactive Display, which now shows nearly 1,000 miles). On the last trip I also though I heard some front diff noise too. This 1000 has been good/rare in that it had no driveline noises or vibration, but I’m guessing I killed the sprague when I had to pull a buddy’s rail back to camp after he hit a witches eye. I towed it in 4 Lo and was probably half or more throttle the whole way.

Am I upset, no, not really. This thing has lived a hard life and run hard, and I have a 36mo (so 42mo total) extended warranty on it. All the Polaris haters/Yamaha fanbois can say "I told you so" but I’d be surprised if the Yamahas don’t have any issues at all after being run this hard for 1300-1400 miles. But if it turns out they are bullet proof they’d be interesting.

PS – just for shits ‘n giggles I made the dealer I took the 1000 into for the warranty work an offer on a unsold Turbo they had on the showroom floor, they didn’t bite.

Cagewrks Race Cage – intrusion bars or not

I’m getting ready to weld up a Cagewrks race cage. The main reason for the cage is because I want a lower roofline so I can get it in my garage on the trailer. Getting a better cage is icing on the cake. Anyway debating on leaving out the intrusion bars across the front windshield area. We mostly just go exploring and drive fast at times but not crazy fast. Just wondering how much of a safety compromise it will be to leave them out? Even without I’m thinking the Cagewrks is way better than the stock bar.

EFX Performance 30x10x14

I have a buddy that wants to sell me a set with just 100 miles on them. Would there be any issues running them on my stock rims? Are they a good tire? Will in need clutch work? He bought a Can Am with those on it and they were too much tire in his opinion and went to the stock size which is a 28" tire.

Black pearl plastics

Does anyone know where I can get the rear passenger side plastic for a 2014 1000 Black pearl. When I look on line it’s just the white and the gray models. Can some one please point me in the right direction thanks

Dune newbie tire advice

Got a 14 1000 2 seat and plan to do some dune trips this season… Need tires. What should I run? engine is stock with exhaust and dalton clutch kit.

I was interested in the new sti sand wedge? Is that too big ? Anyone run them? I’d like to put em on the stock wheels if I can or do I need a more backspaced wheel ?

What other suggestions are out there ? Again id like to use my stock wheels but can get more if need be.

Do I need the smoothies in front ? Or ribbed ones ?
Do u use 4wd?
