Need advice to be prepared on the trail

So, I have been reading a lot of posts here on many topics concerning the 900 EPS Trails and I am looking for advice to make sure I am safe on the trail. Since I will do most of my riding as an only vehicle I want to make sure I have as much stuff on the machine that I will need to get out of sticky situation.

So far I have come up with the addition of the following items:

Fire Extinguisher, found a good one at Rocky Mtn ATV

Spare Tire and Carrier (I really need help sourcing the spare tire carrier, one that will work with my Polaris Cooler in place and also I need a good all around tire, I have read on here that the stock tires are not that good)

Desert Modeling Concepts R2C filter

Lower door inserts (not so much for safety, but to keep cleaner)

I already have a half windshield, winch and roof. Is there anything else you guys think I should have with me, other than food, water, gps, warm clothes, first aid, fire starter.

Radiator Damage

Ok so I am 250 miles into my new Rzr 900 Trail and I must have picked up a rock along the trail that sat between the radiator and the fan before it struck when the fan kicked…. tore the radiator up in multiple areas. Couple of questions for everyone; can small damage be repaired in these aluminum radiators? Has anyone else heard or had an issue like this? I am thinking it is a one in a million chance to happen and I "got lucky"

Doors fitment

I was at the dealer yesterday. I measured as best I could and it looks to me that the doors for all models are interchangeable.

Now I’m putting my money where my mouth is cause I bought a set of a 2015 XP1000 doors. from Fed Fire fighters build. I’ll find out in a week or so when they arrive.

I find the trail’s flat doors a bit uncomfortable. They re a bit restrictive and narrow so not as comfortable on the forearm. But the 900S and 1000 both get thicker material as well as a bend that gives more room in the cabin. Shoulder/Side room to be exact.

Again I’ll find out for sure. But I am curious has anyone else done this and confirm fitment or not??

Also as for lower doors… I assume (if they fit) I should order lowers for the same machine to close off the openings should I want this. (Read momma want this) 🙂

900 trail intake vent pre filter mod

Went to lowes and got some AC duct filters that are meant for fine dust and cut them to size and installed on my intake vents, engine / clutch. It’s a paper filter with a very fine wire mesh. These are cleanable with compressed air also. Ran a bead of hot glue around vent insert and installed filter.

I cleaned my air box and filter and went for a ride in a super dusty field where I was collecting all the dust . Came home and popped the air box open and no dust at all. Filter also. Not bad for a few bucks.

900 trail- LED’s on, lost power steering and check engine light on..

Hey guys, on our Polaris ATV Forum group ride yesterday the dust was so horrible that you couldn’t see the person ahead of you OR worried about the person behind rear ending you.

So I ran my LED headlights and a 10" Rigid Led light bar up front, and a 6" Rigid Led bar for the rear while diving. My battery was completely charged off the battery tender before the group ride and my RPM’s were about 4500-5000 during the ride. All of a sudden I lost power steering and my check engine light came on! Shut the lights off and 30min later my power steering came back on. I don’t even have a big roof light bar yet! So what’s the problem here?

Everything is LED from headlights to small light bars. I’m thinking another shitty Polaris battery, please advise!

Engine overheating

Has anyone had a overheating issue like mine? I’m at 760 miles and 68 hours. Today we were on the trails and everything was going awesome. About 15 miles in we pulled over to give the boys throttle thumb a break. I always keep the engine temp on the gauge. When I shut the machine off I was at 201. Normal. About a minute or two later we hear a pissing sound and sure enough its my machine. Took the hood off and its pissing out the little hole in the overflow bottle. I turned the key on to see the engine temp and its at 230 and going up. Odd to why temps go up when the engine isn’t running. It peaked at 238 and slowing went back down. So I’m wondering if my radiator cap is malfunctioning. We drove another 5 miles and pulled over to test this theory. I shut the engine off at 200 and sat there for a minute and turned the key back on. It was at 220. I started the engine and the temp immediately drops to normal. My cooling system is full, radiator is not clogged, cooling fan is turning on and off when its supposed to, cooling system is still on the factory fill and never been opened until now when I topped it off. So I doubt its an air pocket.
