Preventative care: Voltage Regulator

Reading of all the issues with our voltage regulars cooking them selves. I bought a small computer type fan. It’s sealed, 12V and waterproof. (Works underwater!)

My plan was to space the regulator away from the plastic body and mount the fan to blow air across it.

I also made up a guard from thin 1/16" aluminum diamond plate. It mounts to the two studs for the regulator then is "C" shaped and wraps around three sides to the regulator. This is really just for flying debris from tire. I also pop riveted an additional strip of diamond plate to protect the wiring harness.

I found some 1/4 x 5/8" steel tubing pieces. Perfect! Made two. Lots from a stick of 1/4 x 20 all thread and four ESN nuts & fender washers.

When I pulled the regulator down, I was surprised to find a to. Plate sandwiched between the plastic and regulator. This must be for heat. I kept it in my design but did space it from the regulator about 1/2".

I made up two 90 degree mounts from light Stanley steel mending plates I had in garage. Using #10 x32 bolts and nyloc nuts. Mounted the brackets To the bottom two holes of the bottom fan. (BTW got the fan off eBay 25$) with the regulator out I could d that the fan sat perfectly on the "holey crossbrace" fan on top brackets beneath. Attached with self tapper sheet metal screws.
I did not like wires hanging so I was able to slightly move entire harness to the top of the crossmember pinched between the plastic body and member. (Not tight just snug and well secured) this kept wires out of fan and offered unobstructed draw of air into fan. The fan is a few inches from body at back and sides but touching at top. Sits as if factory!

Then I mounted the regulator with my spacers and guard. Extra set of hands helps here because of the ESN nuts.

Then wire it. I shortened the net wire and added a crimp on eyelet and put it under the self tapper screw that holds fan bracket you screwed in a few minutes ago. Positive goes into the fuse block under drivers seat. I used the 15amp o oh because it was better oriented for the jumper circuit wire I used. I punched out a "exit" for the wire and pushed the wire thru. Then I soldered and shrunk tubing the pos connection. This has my fan running all the time the key is on and for a few seconds and all ways when running.

When I first switched the key on a cloud of dust came out! YES this moves air!!

I think this will offer best air flow and some improved protection too. I do realize that the spaces I created for air flow will catch mud. I’m not a mud rider. Yea I do get in some. But I don’t play in it and the lil extra to be sure it’s cleaned out when cleaning machine is a small issue to me.

I’ll post up pics later. Hope this helps some guys! I think it’s pretty slick!

Front end clunk

i always had a clunk in the front end and thought it was the sway bar so I removed it . After jacking the machine up like 5 times looking for the noise I finally found the problem. The caliper was not adjusted correct from the factory and the caliper was letting out a clunk . There is a pipe plug type Alan head that adjusts the angle of the caliper that was out of whack. I adjusted it so I felt a little drag on the pads and boom noise gone . Figured I would let you fellas know .

Loosing brake pedal pressure

Ran a search and haven’t found anyone else having problems. I am loosing my brakes often and if I pump it 1 to 2 times they come back to normal. It started happening before it ever saw any mud and was 100% stock. I chased down all corners on brake lines and are good and tight. No sign of loss on brake fluid. It hasn’t been an urgent problem for me as I rarely use the brakes do to having engine braking and putt putting around.

Any other suggestions?

Bent tie rod

Has anybody else bent a tie rod? If so, what did you do to fix it or replace it? Mine bent right on the adjustment treads and I bent it back somewhat but now its half broken and I’m sure this will not last long. When searching for a tie rod replacement it appears Polaris wants to sell you the whole steering assembly. All the upgrade kits I’ve found do not specifically state it will work for a 2015 RZR 900 trail.

Cv temps

noticed my rear inner diff side cv joints get about 155-160F with temp gun is that normal? Stock axles no lift just cranked shocks. I noticed it today . Any info would be great.

Anyone ever feel there rear cups? Nothing’s is binding even with wheels off the ground . WEIRD

Need new springs – 900XC

Re: Racer Tech – RZR 900 XC Replacement Springs are HERE!

——————————————————————————–

Ok, who has had their RT springs for a while and can give a honest review of their merits/flaws.
My OEM springs on the XC are pissing me off. Riding every day here on vacation and have had to crank the preload up twice and need to do it again.(500Miles of combined road, rocky trail, wooded trail.) The keeper springs are totally flat/ compressed. Combined accessories and riders = 600lbs+/- plus machine.
Fronts are holding fair, not hitting bump stops, but close. Rears totally wacked, tires are back to being canted in at top by 1 1/2" after yesterdays ride. Ground clearance reduced by 2". ( wife and another passenger)(semi conservative driver)
I need springs bad, just want GOOD springs. I’m looking for a spring that rides soft, doesn’t hammer your teeth out when riding slow, (wife driving), yet can take the occasional punishment of hard, high speed rough dips and woops, and not flatten out in 500 miles.(me driving) Without buying a third machine, Currently running compression dampening at 10 clicks.
Feed back required.
I emailed my specs to RT last night.

Sorry if this is a rehash, but the search process can be a pain in the butt sometimes.
