Question on compression tests results

I have an ’08 and a ’14 rzr 800. The engine on the ’08 got dusted. After burning oil for a few months, decided to do a top-end rebuild. Did a compression test before starting rebuild and results were 145/150.

For the top end rebuild I used new pistons and rings and a used cylinder and cylinder head that I got off of craigslist that was in good condition. Nicasil plating was still in good shape and no problems with leak down test. After completing the rebuild, engine sounds and runs a lot better. Performed another compression test and results were 165/165 both dry and after dropping a few cc’s of oil in the spark plug holes.

I know the service manual says compression should be between 150-200. My question is 165 still seems low, should it have gone higher after rebuild?

Air Filter Delete.. or Not

Good morning everyone, really great to be a part of this forum. My name is Neil, I am up in Eagle River, Alaska. I have just picked up a 2013 RZR 4 800 EPS. Low mileage (628) in fantastic shape. Mainly as a family fun vehicle, but also as a hunting rig. Trails up here are very mixed just depending on the time of year; can be very dry and dusty or wet as heck, or snow covered.
I am not a ‘racer’ so the stock roll cage works for me, but gonna add harnesses.
My question is on the DIY mods. I am going to snorkel it (bone stock now). Should I delete the factory airbox and add UNI/Pre-filter? I am a plumber so not worried about leaks! Just seems the most sensible and convenient way.
Any and all advice appreciated.

Charging System

I have a 2009 RZR 800 EFI, we were out in the Dunes today, stopped to let air out of the tires, wouldn’t start. Used another battery, started up and got it back to where the tow vehicles were parked. Took the battery out and this one was dead as well. It is not charging. Anyone?:redrzr:

Accessory rear lighting help needed

Picked up a couple of 3" led running an stop lights to add on my 2013 Polaris Rzr 800 S. I was expecting to include a relay with the purchase to tie into the wiring but was told that I would’nt need it and that the shop installs these lights without one all the time.
Thinking then this will be easy, I proceeded by first testing the new tail lights wiring compatibility.
After much time testing the new lights I found they don’t work properly.
I can get the running lights to function but not the brake portion of the lights. It seems the terminal(orange wire), goes dead on braking. I think this is where the relay comes in to play.
Any solutions would help.

front diff removal

Has anyone ever removed the front rear end on an 800 while the drive shaft was still attached.
I would love to get my hands around the neck of the engineer that thought using a roll pin in the front yoke off a rzr was a good idea.I have even went as far a laying machine on its side where I could pound the daylights out of it with a bigger hammer and still no luck.

If possible I’m going to remove the whole assembly and take it to shop and drill the roll pin out.

Any suggestions.

800 excessive oil consumption at high altitude but not at low altitude

Summer trip to Taylor Park with a group of people my 2010 RZR 800 starting drinking oil the first day! Got so low the first time that the valves were chattering after about 50 miles of riding!! After that I was constantly checking the oil and adding to it. Got back home to Louisiana (elevation 29 ft) and 85 miles after oil change the level has not changed. What do you think would cause such extreme oil consumption at high altitude? I’ll have to check cylinder compression but it seems if that was the case it would still be drinking oil. The RZR runs fine and still has plenty of power. Any ideas?

New member

What’s up fellas, new member from Texas. Just bought new to me 2014 Rzr 800. Pretty much stock but itching to start modding it. I’m pretty new to the whole Rzr scene. What are some must do mods should I begin with? I do want a lift on it. Found a guy with a S3 lift bracket kit. Are these any good? Couldn’t find any reviews on it. Also I want to get as much hp I can get out of the motor without breaking the bank. Any suggestions would really help. Thanks.
