smokin 350 rancher any thoughts?

Smokey smokey. Ive been looking around the web and finding forums where some people have been adding a little sea foam to the gas and crankcase and it stopped the smoking all together. Any thoughts from the honda community on this? I have the ol carberator problem of gas leaking through and filled the crankcase with gas, but I cought it before starting it. Changed the oil a couple times and she likes to smoke now after running abit. Any help would be great!!! This is my first atv and im not ready to throw in the towel yet

09 420 high km engine noise

I picked up a 09 SRA foot shift fourtrax 420 off a farmer. Bike has 25,000km and 2300 hours. The engine has a pretty good tick to it. I started out with a fresh oil change and a valve adjustment. Some of the noise went away but not all. I then did a compression test and it came back at 125psi. I ran sea foam through it to help get some carbon build up out. It then dropped down to 110psi. Which I assumed is where it should be? After that the engine quieted down, but it still has a noise coming out of the cam area.

Are the cam chains know for wearing out and becoming noisy? The tick is more noticeable on hard acceleration and when you let off the throttle. I’m leaning towards cam chain or wrist pin. But would like to narrow it down before taking the engine apart.

Thanks for the pointers, and yes it has 25,000km on it not 2500.

safe to remove air box drain plug?

air box lid has holes drilled in it, it is stored under a roof but open walls. sometimes i find water standing in there, i presume condensation from under the plastics drips in. would it be unsafe to just remove the drain plug from the air box permanently? or would water get in? i never do deep mud or any water other than mud puddles after getting plugged and breaking a chain trying to cross a creek. icheck the air filter about once a week. thanks

2000 Honda 350 S hard to switch gears

A friend of mine told me that since it’s hard for me to pull the gear shift up with my foot that it could need to be adjusted. Can anyone explain to me how to do this? I looked in the manual that I have for a 2000 Fourtracks, but the adjustment doesn’t seem to be the same. On mine, I have a screw that holds the selector into place on a little gear. I tried adjusting it this way, and it didn’t help.

I’ve taken into consideration my leg problems, but the guy said it shouldn’t need to be raised very high to switch gears.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

High Altitude Main Jets for 93 TRX300FW

Howdy!

My wife has a 93′ TRX300FW Fourtrax with 400 original miles (nice and shiny, and not a scratch on it). We bought it last year to keep at our hidey-hole in the CO Rocky Mountains (Four Corners). Though this bike is in great shape it runs the worst of our three ATV’s.

Our base camp is at 9,000ft, and any riding either direction puts us at 12,000-14,000 ft elev. The higher we go the worse it runs and the blacker the exhaust smoke gets. A guy can’t stand riding behind her without getting a pretty good carbon monoxide buzz. Ha!

Can anyone help me get the right main jets for this bike and any other tuning/adjusting that I may need to do after I get the jets. And where do I get the jets, who from specifically?

I have been looking online for this specific TRX300 and I can find carb kits, etc. But they don’t list the size of jets in the kit. blah, blah, blah!

Anyway, if I don’t hurry and gets some jets and get the bike running right, it’s going to be time to go back to our home in Yuma, AZ (frickin hot) and another summer will go by without getting the bike fixed.

In my owners manual it say…

0-5,000 feet use No.125 main jet
3,000-8,000 feet or higher use No.120 main jet.

We are way higher than that and never go below that. Will that No.120 jet work?

I will order what I need tonight if someone can tell me what I need and where to get it.

and….. what kind of a carb does my bike have on it anyway?

Thanks for any help!!!
