To make a long story short, this Recon was ran with no oil. Definitely needs a hone (if not an oversize), piston is toast and I’ll look at the valves tomorrow.
One thing I know about these Recons is there is no oil pressure light. I’m also having a devil of a time finding information about how to check the pressure on this. I saw a rincon I think but no Recon. Mine is a ’99.
With my engine in its current state, is there any way to make sure I’m getting oil pressure before I put it back together?
Every shaft drive honda I have ever owned called for hypoid gear oil.
Most gear oils do not state hypoid oil on them, but since most if not all modern (like for all my life ) have hypoid gears, is it safe to assume that any modern gear oil is good to use.
I always keep 5 gallons or more of synthetic gear oil on hand, and think, or at least I don’t need to hunt down an oil that soecifies hypoid.
I thought the swingarm bearings would be an easy job but I couldn’t even get the darn bolt out. I have tried beating it with a bfh and air chisel but nothing. No movement at all from the bolt. I was wondering if anyone has ever overcome this problem. I have a feeling I am going to have to cut the bolt but don’t know where to do that I fear it is sezed in the engine case or bent. Any help would be appreciated !! Thanks :funnysuzuki:

Hi all, while removing the starter on mt 2004 Rancher, i broke the electrical connector on the cable to the starter. The 10mm nut would not come off the starter terminal easily and i must have reefed to hard and the connector broke off at the cable tip. Any ideas how to replace the connector? Thanks

Hi, I am grateful to have found this community. I own a 1991 250x. The thing is still awesome and my kids are now learning to ride on it.
Issue: The sprockets/chain are spinning but the wheels aren’t moving! I am new to repairs – with most lessons coming from youtube and Im getting the hang of it. However, I don’t have the slightest clue as to how the rear is assembled and therefore have no idea what parts might be effected.
Its seems that whatever connects to the sprocket to make the axel spin is gone. I found small shards of metal embedded in the grease around the sprocket.
My 300ex has been starting perfectly for the last couple weeks and now the starter is not turning the engine over. It will spin fast and strong when I take the gear out, but with the gear in it doesn’t. Also the selunoid makes a buzzing noise none stop almost.

I’m new to the forum. I’ve had a 89 TRX 350d for a long time now. I’ve had no issues until now. The oil temp light comes on when I’ve been riding for a while but the fan won’t come on. I’ve read through the service manual and tested the wires going to the fan control unit. I have power going to it. I took off the oil temp sensor wire and grounded it to the frame and the fan will not start. My motor is not seized on the fan. When I ground out the oil temp wire should the oil temp light come on? It’s not and the fan won’t start. I’m guessing my wiring is fine, just trying to figure out if the fan control unit is bad or just the fan motor? Can I put power directly to the fan motor to see if it will turn? Also where can you buy new parts for these old machines? Thanks!
