Another ES Issue Thread! 350 Rancher

I have a 2002 Rancher that since I’ve had it gets hard to shift in the winter.

Reading the stickies I see the grease solution, and performed it with moderate success. It still would randomly stick in between gears so I ordered a new angle sensor which is on the way now.

Tonight though I noticed another problem that I’m not sure how long its been occurring. It got going and seemed to have a really hard time upshifting (which were by far the most reliable). I noticed in the cold, dark, with my glove on, that the button just didn’t feel right. Sure enough its not returning fully out, so I think the transmission is ignoring the next inputs. As I rode it got worse to the point I had to pull it out so I could downshift.

Is that shift box with the buttons serviceable to correct this? I hope so, although I’m not adverse to just buying a new one if need be.

Thanks?

As an aside, how stout are the transmissions? I’ve put off getting a plow as I don’t really want to tax a 13 year old machine, but I sure could use it.

Fourtrax 300 oil pump and crankshaft gear.

Im pretty new to posting in forums but I need some help with a 1998 Honda fourtrax 300 4×4, engine was running fine until lately the clutches started slipping. Figured I’d go for a ride a few nights ago and I heard a loud rattle where the clutch cover is so I shut it off and pushed it home. Removed the clutch cover yesterday to find gear teeth at the bottom
Of the case and a large section of a small gear. I pulled the clutches and oil pump to find out that the oil pump gear is stripped of most of its teeth and there is a small gear on the crankshaft that turns the oil pump that is missin a large section. I can pull it off the crank pretty easy. Now my question is, is there a way to pull that same gear off of a parts engine and put it on my engine. And replace the oil pump. I did find what looked to be the same gear but it’s for an 86 Tex 350 motor and they look basically the same. My bike does have an 18% gear reduction if that has to do with anything. I’m just trying to keep from having to replace the crank

2003 400ex battery issues

So I just put a brand new battery in my quad, and I let my friend ride it tonight and he did a wheelie and it scraped the back (didn’t fall over or wreck) and it stalled and it seems like the battery is dead.. It makes no sense but it is acting like a dead battery. It pop starts and fires right up. The battery is 2 days old and I had no issues before this happened. The battery terminals are clean and tight. I’m stumped

Snorkeled 2k15 420

Ok, so I have spent a lot of time working on my rancher and even more time dealing with the problems that come from the mods I get. So, that being said, I have a 2015 Rancher 420 snorkeled with other mods, non-engine related, but those aren’t my issue. The issue used to be that the snorkel leaked. Oh, how those were simple times… I have since overcome, faulty computers, tunes, injector, starter, and fuse box leakage. My only problem, after you have read all of this, good job for hanging in there by the way, is that when I go on rides and I go through deep water, the engine cuts off. It has done this multiple times and I usually have to be towed home because it will crank but not start. Recently, I was in a swamp on my land, and I went through a deep hole and it cut out. So I have to get my girlfriend off the bike and into the water, 36 Degrees, and get soaked just like myself only so I could pick up the rear end and put it out of the hole, which, keep in mind, is still barely at the bottom of my exhaust. I go to crank it, nothing, so I wait, crank it again, and it fires up. Looking for a solution to this problem. All-in-all, Deep water=Dead motor. Each time this happens, the airbox is 100% dry.

1986 Honda 350 4×4 no power

Hey guys, new to the forum seems pretty sweet, already used extensively for my 400 ex’s. I now just picked up a 1986 Honda 350 4×4 fourtrax for nothing cause it wasn’t running. Got it from a good friend who I trust very much, who told me it was running then it quit and they couldn’t figure it out. They narrowed it down to something electrical, but couldn’t get it so they gave it to him where it sat at his place covered for years. The engine has and holds compression, also the oil level was good, VERY black, but at correct level. I have a new battery on it fully charged so I know that’s good but the display lights, the oil, neutral and such do not turn on and I don’t seem to have spark. I have traced the constant wire up to the key switch of which there’s power up there. The starter solenoid I believe is bad cause i tried the ole arc an old screw driver across and there’s no spark, but I could be wrong on that. I have ran a jumper wire to the fuel pump which does work but does nothing when I turn the key on. I apologize if I sound stupid I don’t know a whole lot on the electrical side of the ATV’s, engine wise I’m ok but that’s why I’m coming here hoping to come up with some answers. Anything would be much appreciated!!!

20 hour valve adjustment

I have a new 2016 Rancher and the manual says for the 20 hour service to do a valve adjustment. Is this a necessary thing to do or is it only done if you notice noise, etc. I read the thread on valve adjusting but didn’t get a good handle on how or WHERE to start that and my dealer is 3 hours away.
