00 450ES speedo shift issues

Well Speedo and shifting looks like it has to be one of the more common issues with the Foreman 450ES.

I have a combination issue and have scoured the previous threads looking for clues. Not finding the right combination I would like to ask some other expert members.

I bought this 450 ES a couple months ago. Bad Speedo torn seat and shifting mainly worked with the emergency lever. It looks like this was a problem for a while as the lever is welded to the shaft!

I have been able to get the Electric shifter buttons to work intermittently but 80% of the time it fails with no noise. One note, The up button is a bit sticky being slow to rebound after being pressed but when it works that does not seem to be an issue.

The speedo at first had no lights or display of any kind but I have managed to get it working… somewhat.

Now the speedo shows as below with key on and engine off:
The indicator lights for Neutral and reverse work now. the oil light works at start up also. With engine off, The display shows miles time and speed of Zero and it shows the following gears – R 1 & 5 when I move the selector. When the selector is in 2,3,4 it shows — instead of the number.

When I start the engine the display reads as noted above but as soon as I put it in gear and rev it a bit to start moving the display goes completely dark.

I spent a long time looking at about 20 different threads and it seems like I could have a bad speed sensor or connections, and possibly a bad angle sensor or connections. Am I on the right track? Is there a pinned thread I missed with testing procedures for these and other items?

I gave all the details I can think of so I’m open to suggestions!

’92 TRX300 Sensor Line Test

I’ve been pulling wires for the past week trying to figure out where the fire in this quad went. I’ve been through the test procedures per the manual and now pulling my last few hairs out. Ohm meter says good pulse gen., coil, plug wire,stop switch, neutral/rev., fuses, battery ground, diode, 12v to CDI, 12.8v-13.2v in battery, and the one test that has me stumped… When I tried the AC sensor line test, I have continuity Y/W to 3P Y alt. wire and also have continuity Y/W to G on the CDI .?. When I disconnect 3P connector, I have no continuity between Y/W and G at cdi. When testing the 3P Y wires to ground, I have NO continuity. Obviously, I’m tired and confused. Could you all tell me what I’m overlooking with this test ? Thanks in advance for any clues here.

Rancher 420 missing 4th gear

I picked up a new (-ish; 2008 420FM Rancher). Runs fine, doesn’t have 4th gear. First through third seem fine, but fourth is nonexistent (sorry, didn’t check what happens at fifth.) Before you lecture me on the wisdom of this purchase, don’t. Deal’s done, and nothing you can say now will resound any louder than the experience I will derive from the situation I have just put myself in. I think it will work out just fine, but check with me in a year to be sure.

Anyway, my thought is: I need to buy a new transmission. More specifically, I plan to search on ebay for a "Honda Rancher 420 transmission" that fits an 07 or 08 Rancher, then buy the cheapest one that comes up and put it in.

Are there any flaws in this reasoning? Is there a chance transmission is not the issue? Do I need to run any more tests?

honda 300 fourtrax

i have an older 300 fourtrax (late 80s early 90s) when i turn the key no neutral lights no oil temp light no reverse light no headlights nothing. tried jumping it off, nothing. when i try and kick start it the neutral light wont even flicker. even tried to jump the solenoid. nothing. fuses are fine. thinking it might be the ignition switch. not sure. HELP PLEASE! thanks

honda 350s rancher clutches

i have a 2000 350 standard shift rancher. when you shift there is no between gears it just jumps straight into gears. sometimes its soft then it is really hard. you can not hold it between gears whatso ever with out it going to a gear. what do i need to replace clutch wise or is it simple as adjusting them. thanks

1991 trx250x stalling

Hi I have a 1991 trx250x that starts up fast and rides good but I’m having a issue at top speed. It gets there and drives good but after a few seconds it starts to stall but if you let go of the throttle it doesn’t die but if you hold it the atv will stall and day. Any advice? Its stock but has a white brothers exhaust on it

Honda 300 4X4 shift problems!!! HELP PLEASE!!!!

Hey guys and girls!!!! I have another question I need some help with!!!! I have a Honda 300 4X4 that goes through the gears fine but when I shift, the shift lever does not spring back down. I have to move it down manually!! I have tried changing the return spring and even put another shift arm on it and it is still doing the same thing!! Has anybody else had this problem??? Any help will be appreciated !!!!!
