Honda 250ex rear end/brakes shot

So I got the Engine back together on my 2001 250ex and it runs great but now I noticed that the rear end has ALOT of play in and out. The axle will pull out both sides about 1inches and it clicks so I assume I need all new bearings. The dust cap feel out a long time ago and I never greased it or re packed it in so I guess it’s my fault but I have a few Qs.

So first question is – what brand of bearings should I go with. I see Rocky Mountain has All Ball kits for 25 dollars but I’m not sure it will last too long for how hard I ride this thing so can someone show me on the oem parts diagram what bearings I need to order? I’d like to take it apart and put it together in the same day so I don’t want to pull it apart now.

Also, will I need any special type of puller or other tool to do this? Brakes don’t work either so I’m going to clean it out and replace what’s needed as well.

Thanks a lot guys

(I’ll have a pic of the schematic in a sec hopefully)

Foreman 450 es wont shift above 1st

Hi, Im new to the Honda foreman. I just bought this one ac couple days ago. I bought it with the shifter not working figuring I could figure it out and put some money into it and have a nice atv to have. Its a 2002 Honda foreman 450es selectable 4×4. Trx450fe2(I believe)

So here the problem. With the key on, engine off you can press the shift button and it (with no problem) will shift firmly into reverse neutral and 1st gear easily. If you continue to go shift to 2nd you can hear the motor actuating and trying to turn, but no firm "clunk" into 2nd gear and the guage display will still read 1st. The same thing applies with it running but if course you cant hear the shift motor over the atvs engine. So im pretty sure the motor isn’t the problem

I’ve noticed also that the lights will dim slightly when shifting but it seems to look normal and not an excessive draw. It will run around the yard in 1st gear and will not shift at all. Reverse neutral and 1st are all I’ve got.

Now I tried to use the manual backup shift lever and running or not it is hard to move the lever and will not go into either gears from neutral. I don’t know if this is normal or not. With the key on engine off and I try to use the manual lever when I put pressure on it the lever the neutral indicator (the N)will start flashing.

The atv has a new battery, a new shift motor, and a new shift position switch. I’ve also checked the fuses and the main power and ground wires. I’m assuming this is a mechanical problem but im not sure and I would like to get some input before I go tearing into the case…

Recoil Starter 2007-2013 TRX420

I know about the recoil starters for these 2007-2013 TRX420s being useless if the battery is completely dead. The idea is still interesting to me for a weak battery (IE: left the lights on too long) or something like the starter dying.

For $150 it’s not quite worth it right now, but I’ve seen a few of these kits pop up for Canadian TRX420 pre-2012 at close to $100 less. Even adding in the shipping it’s close to half the price. Is there a reason that the canadian kit won’t work on a US spec TRX420?

FWIW my Rancher is a 2010 TRX420 FM.

2004 trx500fa grinding??

I was riding my 2004 Honda foreman rubicon 500 (trx500fa) with hondamatic through a level field behind my house (getting ready for hunting so I wasn’t hammering it or anything. I was being quiet and only going 10 mph) well anyway I was just cruising along and it literally popped out of gear and started to grind. So I put it in neutral real quick. The grinding stopped. I put it back into drive again and it seemed like it wanted to start going but it started grinding again. So I shut it off and pushed it home. Any ideas what happened or what I need to look at to fix it? My friends dad know all about fixing engines and he has no idea. So any suggestion or links to solutions or anything will help! Thanks!!!

Timing 400ex

I recently purchased a 2003 400ex that needed some "minor" work.
It was blowing oil out around the spark plug/valve cover head area.

Well long story short there was a tap broke off in one of the valve cover bolts and when I took the head and cam/timing chain off I never marked anything (like a idiot)

Now when I go to re assemble this thing how do I get it back in properly?

Appreciate the help.
This thing has been an absolute nightmare for me. I just wanted to ride 😔

Repairing cv joints worth having a lift?

Ok so I noticed a torn boot (outer) on my 08 rancher needed to be replaced. After doing some research I figured out that the outer cv doesn’t come apart so I have to replace booth boots or just get new clamps for the inner. After tearing into the inner boot I noticed that the 2" lift had grinded the cup down over the first clip in the cv joint. Are there better cv joints/axles made for this problem (lifted bikes) or should I just take the lift off?
